Don’t Ask Me Why
Hi there! This is Jasper. You remember. Jasper the German Shepherd Dog. Today was a very good day! I got to train with Mom, which is always fun. Only we had to do nail trimming first. Don’t ask me why? Mom has a thing about dog toe nails. You humans are just strange sometimes.
Mom and I have a deal. Every time I let her trim a toe nail, I get a treat! Only I have to not pull my paw away. If I do that, no treat. Bummer. It’s really hard! It’s mom’s fault anyway. If she hadn’t cut my quick that one time, now it just makes me jerky! I tell her that every time too!! She just says, “Be that as it may, Jasper, we are cutting nails today, so give paw Buster!” When Mom goes from Jasper to Buster I know I “done got on her last nerve.” That’s what she says anyway, “Jasper you done got on my last nerve Buster!”
Sad Puppy Sometimes Works
Sometimes I try to do a sad puppy. See like this.
That works sometimes, because it makes Mom laugh. But not on dog toe nail cutting day. Nope! Moms all business. I don’t think she likes doing it much more than I like having it done. Anyway, we got all my front nails done, and Mom said ” That’s “a very bad word” enough for today Jasper. Let’s go train. Well, you don’t have to tell me twice! I jumped up from my place bed and turned in a circle three times. I hit her a few times in the face with my tail, I think, not on purpose. I just have a happy tail, and it gets away from me, mom says. She was getting up off the floor, which takes her WAY longer than it takes me. Poor mom!
Out to Train
So we went outside and trained. That’s always fun. There are lots of cookies involved, and I get to do neat things that make Mom happy, like sit, down, sit, down, sit, down. Mom says it calisthenics for dogs. What’s calisthenics? We do other stuff to like heel and come, and at the end we play fetch and tug!! Those are my favorites! Mom throws the ball until I’m panting and then she makes me sit and she holds the ball hanging from the string and says “Yip” and I jump in the air, grab that ball, and we play tug until Mom’s panting, and then we go in and she feeds me.
It’s Not Fair!
Sometimes we walk to the neighbor’s fence to work on my “dog reactivity,” which I don’t mind too much, except Mom gives the neighbor’s dogs cookies for barking at me!! Those are my cookies! I only get cookies for sitting quietly. It’s not fair! Mom says it’s building my character. What’s character? I’m not sure I want character!
Down to the River
Today, though, we got to go to a place I’d never been before. It was by a river, and I got to run along side Mom and Dad on their bikes. Mom says they are actually trikes, as they are too old for bikes. I got to smell a bunch of stuff and leave my mark everywhere! It was great!. We passed other people, and even some little people, and Mom says I was a very good boy! I had good manners! What’s manners? Oh well. I also saw two dogs and I only barked once. I wanted to bark more, but Mom was giving me the stink eye so I didn’t.
Overall, it was a very good day.
Signing out for now!
