Hello from Jasper the Dog!

Hi, My name is Jasper. I’m a dog. Actually, a German Shepherd dog. I thought if my mom was going to do a blog about German Shepherds you should hear my viewpoints because Mom and I don’t always agree. For instance, she thinks I should swim in the pool. After all, I swim in the creek by our house all the time. It’s a lot of fun. I swim in circles around Mom while she swims in place upstream. Without her swim paddles, she goes backward!

Back to the pool though, it’s nothing like a creek. A creek has two sides, and you can walk in and out. That pool only has a ladder. Well, OK, Mom did buy me a dock, and I did get out OK, it was scary though. It’s a really nice dock. If it wasn’t in that pool, I’d enjoy chewing on it. I can tell about those things because I’m very smart…and handsome. Mom says so.

Don’t tell her I planned to eat the dock. I don’t think she’d like that. She keeps trying to lure me in the pool with my favorite ball. She puts it on the dock where I can’t get it unless I step on that dock. I’m no fool. I know what she is doing!

This site is going to be about all things me! Well, OK all things German Shepherds and let me tell you there a lot to say about my breed!

German Shepherds by Jasper

So, let’s talk German Shepherds! We are known for being loyal, courageous, and intelligent dogs. We’ve got a lot of versatility too. We can be guard dogs or family pets – whatever you need us to be! We also make great working dogs because we love having something to do. We were sheep dog you know, back in the day. Some of still are of course. I myself, have never seen a sheep.

You also may have seen us on police forces or in the military. We can jump out of planes and smell bad stuff like explosives. We can even be therapy dogs or guide dogs for the visually impaired.

No matter what we’re doing, German Shepherds are always up for a challenge and love to please our humans. That means lots of obedience training! It’s important to teach us good manners and keep us socialized with other animals so that we don’t become too dominant. Mom says I need to work on my manners more. I personally think manners are overrated but Mom says they are important. We are a strong-willed breed and need leaders that can be firm but fair with us.

We come in a variety of sizes, from sort of small to really large, and have variety of coat colors. You are probably use to the saddle back black and tan. They are OK I guess but I am a sable. Sables are of course the best color to be. I think. I see mostly in black and white.

Grooming?

Grooming-wise we don’t need too much maintenance as our coats are relatively low-maintenance. Wait, that’s a lie! We shed, I mean a lot. You could stuff a pillow with all the hair you can get off of me in one good brushing, at least that’s what Mom says. Just brush us once or twice a day, or not at all since you will never and I mean never stop getting hair, and take us for regular baths as needed, which means never. I don’t like baths. I do like being rubbed off with a towel after I’ve been in the creek though, that feels good!

Overall German Shepherds are an amazing breed and we make great companions and family pets if we are properly trained. With a little bit of effort, we can be the best friend you’ve ever had! Well, after me of course! Woof out! 🐶🤣

Good luck with your German Shepherd journey!

Woof,

Jasper the Dog! 😁✌️

PS It was my birthday this month. I’m one. Mom made me wear this stupid hat. She even taught me the command hat so she can put more stupid hats on me. She said I have to add it. I’m so embarrassed. I am handsome though huh?
